| Do
YOU have a favorite road? Then why not tell us about it? Simply drop
the crew an e-mail, stating the road number; for example, A684 from Lemming Bar to Romanby. We would also
appreciate it if you could inform us of the character of the road - We know
it sounds a bit daft this will help us categorise them, different riders
prefer different types or roads - Some
prefer predictable fast sweepers in moorlands, some like more demanding
tight twisting roads and some like humps and airborne time, or just simply
the area. For whatever reason, you are invited to submit some of your favorite roads to us,
and rest assured, we’ll do the rest! |
| The
A686 from Alston to Penrith
PENNINES/NORTH UK
Voted
2002 by a national AA survey to be the BEST road in the UK
to drive on, bar NON. It is even better on a
Blackbird or a cutting edge sportser! This road
really comes alive as soon as you leave Alston, which is situated on the
Pennine Borders. The road has a whole mixture of flavours, from sweeping
moorlands, to hairpin bends situated in overhanging trees. A few of the
bends are even banked similar to a Nascar
circuit! The road surface is also extremely grippy and well maintained.
There are a few corners on mild banks but no Airtime!
From Alston, you snake your way to the top of the Hartside
Pass
in the Pennines
to the famous Biker Café “HillTop Café”, which is jam-packed with Bikers
every weekend. ! Then when you are all
refreshed you can commence the truly breath taking ride down the mountain
side into Penrith. This is laden with hairpins,
but not too dangerous

| B1257 from Stokesley
to Helmsley
NORTH
YORKSHIRE
Surrounded
in forests, it is beautiful ride and best ridden at sensible speeds due
to its notorius reputation. . More bends than you can shake a stick at,
but has a bumpy nature that needs riding with respect.Give
it a try, we guarantee you’ll be going there again and again for its sweeping
bends, but be aware and warned, many police frequent this road nowadays
and rightly so due to the number of unecessary accidents by those who
chose to exceed normal riding speeds. Not to mention the Biker
Haunt Helmsley which has some great pubs, café’s and plenty of time to
chill out and chat to the many bikers who frequent this town at weekends.
It seems that as soon as you flow out of one corner, you’re flowing into
the next.

A169 from Whitby to Pickering
NORTH YORKSHIRE
If
you like deserted moorlands in the middle of nowhere, then look no further
than the A169 from Whitby
to Pickering.
This forms part of the Bermuda Triangle
with the A170 from Pickering
to Whitby
and the A171 from Whitby
to Scarborough.
But we are gonna concentrate on la crème de la crème, the A169 Moorlands. This
is a road that you’ve all probably ridden on or traveled on at some point
or another. It is very forgiving to a slightly slower rider who you may
ride with, as it involves a lot of straight roads and long sweeping bends.
It is definitely worth a ride on it. Most parts of this road are in the
middle of nowhere.

From
Wickham follow the A32 towards Alton.
HAMPSHIRE
From
Wickham follow the A32 towards Alton.
There is a good selection of on camber bends. Watch out for the speed
limits through the villages. Turn right onto the A272 at the Meon Hut crossroads or stop for a drink at the Little Chef.
Also
a fuel station there if required. Follow the 272 to the Petersfield
A3 roundabout (famous for knee down antics) either stop at fuel station
or McDonalds or just turn around and back down the infection 272 which
is much twistier than the 32. Back up to the A32 crossroad turn
right on the A32 (or follow the 272 to Winchester
and back) and follow it to Alton
where the A339 can be joined. The A339 is a phenomenal road with everything
you could ask for but beware of some tightening bends. Get to the end
of the 339 and turn around and do it all again. Brilliant 50 -140 miles
depending on what ya fancy.
From
Billinghurst on the A272 to Southampton
SUSSEX/HAMPSHIRE
Just thought I'd let ya know about the A272 Billingshurst to Southampton
road (South coast - Mid Sussex/Hampshire area). Loads of great sweeping
corners, with some tight and twisty ones for the sportier riders (watch
out around the golf course as the road drops away really fast), and long
(ish) straights for getting some serious triple figures showing. Best
times to ride it are mid evening during the week, as at weekends the caravan
and tractor brigade are out in force and any earlier and you will be held
up by pensioner sightsee'rs.
If you would like to see one of your favourite roads posted on here -
drop us a line
We welcome submission from not only the UK, oh and some photos would be
good too!!
