Hi
I have a 1999 blackbird with 20,000 miles on the clock. I fitted Oxford
heatedtd grips & found they would only come on if Irevved bike and
switched the lights off - sometimes the battery would be flat after
3/4 days, sometimes no problems at all. On a trip to hungary I intermittently
had to bump start the bike after fuelling, and in the morning, and sometimes
everything was ok. On investigation I found a bad connection on the
rectifier connection, I repaired it but still had the same problem.
I then changed the battery, still the same intermittent problems. Finally
I retested charging/rectifier circuits & found after a few minutes
the rectifier got VERY warm and the charging voltage was down to 7/8
volts. I changed the rectifier, puchased from David Silver spares (not
oe replacement), I also took the opportunity to fit a computer fan to
it to aid cooling/air circulation to the regulator/rectifier and now
everything now ok - also the bike runs a lot smoother. The heated grips
now work.
I assume
the bad/corroded connection had already caused the rectifier to partially
fail and it was getting worse as time progressed....
Hope
this is of some use to some one
